Churches Together in Huntingdon and Godmanchester

St Mary the Virgin is represented in this group by both lay and clergy members. Meetings of the group typically attract people from up to sixteen local churches covering a range of Christian denominations. ‘Churches Together’ exists primarily to enable churches to bear a more united witness in the community and to serve it more effectively. Meetings are held four times a year and participating clergy/ministers come together more frequently. Topics of concern or interest to the local population are discussed with a view to raising awareness within churches and encouraging support where this is needed. Examples have included Youth Work, ’Dial Drug Link’ (tackling drug problems) and ‘Cornerstone’ (counselling service for pregnancy and related matters).

St Mary the Virgin plays its full part in combined services that are arranged throughout each year and in pulpit exchanges. Publicity is provided for events organised by other churches for the wider public, including events with a focus on mission, also on Christian Aid. Interchange of information between churches is a very important aspect of the work of Churches Together.

A Churches Together ‘Men’s Breakfast’ with speaker takes place bimonthly at a local hostelry. This is open to all men. Four to six members of our church (not always the same men) normally attend and thoroughly enjoy these occasions.

Current contacts are Andrew Fawcett    and The Revd David Busk

We believe that the Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Godmanchester, exists to build up the individual and corporate spiritual life of our Church and to spread the love of Christ through word and deed, by enabling those who live and work within our town to come into contact with God’s love and come to faith in Christ.
