Church Life

In the last few years of the 20th Century a great majority of the congregation were over 60 with only a small number of families with young children. The incumbent at the time, Neil Follett, had a vision of opening a church school in the town. With much effort this vision was realised in September 1999 when St Anne’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School opened its doors to 90 pupils.

A new incumbent, Peter Moger, was appointed in 2001 with a priority to work with children and young people.

The efforts of the last two incumbents have resulted in a significant increase in the percentage of families with young children attending worship and participating regularly in parish life.

In 2005, Peter Moger, Vicar of Godmanchester since 2001, left the parish to take up his appointment as National Worship Development Officer for the Church of England. We are all very sorry to see him go, but we wish him all the best in this exciting new challenge – the worshipping life of the Church of England is in excellent hands!

In September 2006 our new Priest-in-Charge, David Busk, arrived in the parish with his wife, Yoko, and two children, Simon and Karin. David had spent the last twelve years in Japan.

Our worship style would be considered as eclectic. Principally traditional Anglican but, through the introduction of different styles of worship during the last five years, we strive to include people of all ages and all stages of faith development.

We believe that the Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Godmanchester, exists to build up the individual and corporate spiritual life of our Church and to spread the love of Christ through word and deed, by enabling those who live and work within our town to come into contact with God’s love and come to faith in Christ.
