Welcome to St Mary’s

New to the Parish Church?

New to Godmanchester, or a visitor to the town, and you would like to know more about the St Mary’s community? Please collect a ‘Welcome’ flyer from the table by the entrance door. Do make yourself known to the Vicar, one of the Churchwardens or sidespersons and please join us in the church hall for refreshments after the 9.30am service today.

David and Anja’s wedding

We will be marrying at St Mary’s, Albury, Anja’s parish church, on Saturday November 16th at 4.00 pm. All Godmanchester (and Hilton) friends are warmly invited to attend both the service and the very simple ‘do’ in the pub afterwards – please accept this as your invitation, and feel free to pass it on to anyone you think might be interested! There is no need to let us know if you are coming to the service only, although there may be standing room only as it is a small church. If you would like to come to the ‘do’, to which you are most welcome, please let us know for catering purposes. Directions to the nearby pub will be given out at the service. St Mary’s Albury is near Bishop’s Stortford, about an hour’s drive from here, at Church End, Albury, Ware, Herts. SG11 2JQ. Please, no presents, just your presence. With love. Anja and David

Vicarage Home Group

We meet again on Wednesday 16th at 10.45 am in the Vicarage, for prayer, bible study, chat and coffee. All are welcome, and there is no need to let me know you’re coming or to come each time. Give it a go!

Handel’s Messiah is coming to Godmanchester

St Ives Choral Society will be performing what is probably the best known and loved oratorio of all. Part I begins with prophecies by Isaiah and others, and moves to the annunciation of the nativity. In Part II, Handel concentrates on the Passion and ends with the "Hallelujah" chorus. Part III covers the resurrection of the dead and Christ’s glorification in heaven.

Messiah will be SICS first outing to Godmanchester church, where we look forward to performing by candlelight in the lovely acoustic there. We are delighted to be joined by young singers from Hinchingbrooke School, who will be singing the duet version of How Beautiful are the Feet for us.

Save the date, Saturday November 16th in Godmanchester Church for what promises to be a memorable evening.

Tickets (£12, £10 conc) are available online from and on the door on the night depending on availability.

Vestry prayer

All those who have a ministering role in the 9.30 Eucharist – lesson readers, intercessors, chalice assistants, pianists and those who pray at the healing service – are invited, indeed warmly encouraged, to join the altar party in the vestry for prayer just before the service starts. Please come boldly into the vestry at about 9.25, and please take it as read that this is a permanent invitation for all concerned, even when this notice no longer appears in the newsletter.

Film Night. Mama Mia, Here We Go Again. The Abba musical.

Presented in the Church Hall, Chadley Lane, 7pm for 7.30pm

Come to our delightful film night on October 19 and enjoy a wonderful evening of romance, Abba’s great music, friendship and delicious food. It’s a star studded film with Meryl Streep, Lily James, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and comedienne Christine Baranski from the American hit series The Good Wife and The Good Fight. And then there’s Cher as the magnificent grandmother.

The music will carry you along and lift your heart with Abba’s sunny and joyful world famous hits. The romantic comedy of course takes place in Greece. In the interval there is a light Greek flavoured supper of delicious Moussaka, baklava and Turkish delight, included in the bargain ticket price of £10. There will also be a bar and a raffle. From the Friends of St Mary’s Church, Godmanchester.
