Jazz in the Vicarage Garden, Saturday 20 July

Yes, it’s nearly time for what has become a favourite annual event in the Godmanchester calendar: wonderful jazz from Barry Palser’s Savoy Jazz Band in the Vicarage Garden. A lovely evening for everyone with the opportunity to sample one of Christopher Vane Percy’s legendary Pimms cocktails and enjoy a complimentary strawberry and cream tart. Bring your own picnic, something to drink and something to sit on. Organised by the Friends of St Mary the Virgin, proceeds to the Transformation Fund.

Gates open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start, entrance via Post Street. If wet, will be held in the church.

Tickets £10, from 01480 411242 or 07757 804747 children under 14 FREE

Vicarage home group

The Vicarage home group will meet again on Wednesday July 17 at 10.45 am. All are welcome – no need to say if you’re coming. We spend about an hour and a half in prayer, bible study and wherever conversation leads us, with coffee. Do give it a try.

Mashambanzou BBQ – £550 Raised

We raised total of £550 at last Sunday’s BBQ. The weather was fine, and nearly 40 adults and children attended. Thanks to all those who came, contributed raffle prizes, salads and desserts, or made donations. Thanks also to those who helped set up, and clear up at the end.

New Fish Pass

At the suggestion of HDC who are the owners of the Mill Steps, a new town community group meets next week to assist with the restoration of the steps area and the installation of a Fish Pass. Godmanchester is the only settlement on the Great Ouse not to have a fish pass. This will allow fish and eels to swim to and from their spawning grounds. The main funding is in place and all being well once the design etc. is finalised it is hoped work will start in the spring of 2020.

GMiB Flower Awards

This year our informal competition for the best front garden, window box container, hanging baskets will take place during week commencing 29 July.
