Tribute to Ken Diffey

At 11.15 on Sunday 18th November in the Church Hall, there will be a celebration and tribute to Ken Diffey to thank him for his many years as organist and choirmaster. Please come and join in giving our thanks to Ken for his exceptional service. Please note: Ken and Ruth are not going anywhere, and Ken is thankfully still active in helping out with organ playing and in the choir. This is in gratitude for his leadership in those two roles. It is that leadership which he has now relinquished; it is not in any sense a farewell or even a retirement party!

Godmanchester Remembers

There are six Commonwealth War Graves in our Churchyard but for some reason two names are not recorded on our Town’s War Memorial or the tablet above our Church’s Memorial Alter.

Gunner Earnest George Deighton from the Royal Artillery died on 29th October 1946 but possibly not as a result of actions during WW11.

Aircraftwoman 2nd Class Margaret Taylor Gorman of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force died whilst on leave in Godmanchester. She very sadly drowned in the Great Ouse close to Island Hall on 25th March 1942 and is also not recorded.

In recent years Malcolm Cohen together with the Town Mayor has placed wooden crosses at all six graves in our Churchyard the week before Remembrance Day. This year as part of the 100th anniversary of the ending of WW1 wreathes were placed on their graves instead.

Just a reminder that the Church Bazaar will take place on Saturday 24th November at 2.00 pm. We need donations of cakes for the cake stall, bottles for the bottle stall, gifts, books and raffle prizes. This year, as in previous years, we are asking groups to provide hampers. Last year the grand draw stall looked very attractive thanks to your generosity. We also need helpers for the door as we use the north entrance also, and someone to run the bookstall, the gift stall and help with games. If you can help in any way please could you let me know.

“Christmas Child” Reminder

Once again I am co-ordinating this year’s shoebox collection from our church. I have leaflets which give more details about Operation Christmas Child and how to pack your shoebox and will bring these to church for the 9.30 am service each Sunday during October (except Sunday 14 October). The date to return boxes to church is SUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER. I also have a few empty shoeboxes to cover with Christmas wrapping paper and 20 flat pack boxes which need fairly simple self assembly but are ready decorated. If you would like either of these or have any other queries please speak to me after the service or contact me as follows:
