Catherine of Aragon, presented by David Starkey

On Saturday 17 November the Friends of St Mary’s hosted a fascinating talk by David Starkey, in which he illuminated many little-known facts about the life of “Huntingdonshire’s Queen”, Catherine of Aragon. The talk was followed by a buffet, and a film on Henry VIII by David Starkey and David Sington. More than 300 people filled the church for a very enjoyable evening, and the total income for the evening was £7520. The proceeds will be used to support the Restoration Project and the church fabric. The evening was a huge success, and thanks are due not only to the Davids Starkey and Sington who donated their talents, but also to The Co-op who donated wine and food, and especially to the many people who put enormous effort into organising the ticketing, the seating, the church decorations, the media systems, the tables of buffet food, the bar, and a raffle. Many attendees have given very enthusiastic feedback, including one comment of “totally amazing!”.

The Supper raised over £440 in aid of Cornerstone Pregnancy Advice Centre, a Huntingdon based charity. It was a very enjoyable evening: thanks to all who came.

Charities Committee

As many of you know I am preparing to move to Kent next month to be nearer to my daughter and her family. It’s not been an easy decision to make and I shall very much miss you all. Thank you for the love and support I have been given over the last twenty or so years of worshipping at St Mary’s. The friendship of the congregation here has meant a lot to me. My last ministerial day will be Sunday 2 December when I am taking Morning Prayer at 8am and preaching at the 9.30 service. Afterwards there will be light refreshments in the church hall. I do hope you can join me on that day. Pat Saunders
