Welcome to St Mary’s
New to the Parish Church?
New to Godmanchester, or a visitor to the town, and you would like to know more about the St Mary’s community? Please collect a ‘Welcome’ flyer from the table by the entrance door at the church. Do make yourself known to the Vicar, one of theChurchwardens.
There will be NO meeting this month as some members are going to see a live screening of Romeo and Juliet. We are doing teas at the fete and ask for kind donations of cakes etc to sell. We shall be at the church hall from midmorning on Saturday 15th June. Looking forward to seeing all ladies who are able to spare a while to help, and of course to welcoming everyone to our cake bonanza Olwyn Hurd (458700 ).
As is usual we need donations of all sorts of things to make the event a success. There is a box on the font waiting for bottles for the bottle stall. We need cakes for the cake stall, books, gifts for the gift stall and raffle prizes for the Grand Draw. You have all been very generous in the past so we are hoping that you can help again this year. Please could you look on the table by the font as there may be some raffle tickets there for you to buy or sell. Thank you all for your support.
Godmanchester’s Midsummer Evening History Talks
On Saturday June 22nd at 7pm in St Mary’s Church there will be an illustrated talk by author and historian Ken Sneath at the launch of his new book on the history of the Parish Church. Also Kate Hadley will introduce us to our Roman forebears with a talk on Godmanchester’s secret Roman treasures illustrated by pictures and some wonderful artifacts. Delicious food and wine will be available and there will be the opportunity to win a Roman coin and a signed copy of The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in the raffle. Tickets for the event at £10 are available from

Entry for children is free. Please do support this event which promises to be very interesting. The event is presented by The Friends of St Mary’s and all profits will go to the Transformation Project. Signed books will be available to buy.
Q & A sermon June 9th
The sermon at the 9.30 am Eucharist today will take the form of a question and answer session (on matters of faith, not Brexit, Donald Trump, Britain’s Got Talent or any other headline!) There are question slips available in church which need to be given to me before the service. Obviously, if I receive a lot it won’t be possible to address all of them, so they will be selected at random this morning. If time permits, I hope to invite comments from the congregation, not just questions, but we may find time does not permit!
