The Churchyard

History

The churchyard was closed in 1959 by an Order in Council.

The Current Situation

The churchyard is in good condition. A designated area is maintained to a very high standard for the interment of ashes. Memorial plaques may be erected in the plot and a park bench, funded by a bequest, has been erected on the edge of the plot for use by visitors.

The Town Council is now responsible for the churchyard. Grass cutting and minor tree work are carried out by a team of volunteers from the church on a contract from the Town Council who pay fees for the work.

In the last year the wall, railings and gates in Church Place and the gates to Chadley Lane and East Chadley Lane have been replaced to a very high standard by the Council.

The Future

The boundary wall with Godmanchester Community School needs repairing or replacing, but with no evidence of ownership the work is still outstanding. A solution to the problem is under investigation by the PCC.
