Ecumenical
Churches Together in Huntingdon and Godmanchester
In the last five years we have forged strong links with the other three churches in the town, the Baptist Church, the Salvation Army and the Society of Friends (Quakers). Activities include:
- a quarterly meeting of ministers from the four churches;
- a New Year’s Eve Watchnight service which rotates between the four churches;
- a Procession of Witness around the town on Good Friday, starting at St Anne’s School and finishing at a different church each year. Once every three years the Godmanchester churches join with the Huntingdon churches for this event;
- a joint open air service, Worship in the Park, on the Sunday morning of the Godmanchester Gala Weekend in early July;
- a joint Memorial Service at the town’s War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday;
- holiday clubs for children, using leaders and helpers from all the churches;
- joint flyers for Christmas and Holy Week & Easter services at all four churches, which are distributed to all houses in the town;
- joint marriage preparation work with the Methodist Church in Huntingdon, and Relate;
- responsibility for one day’s prayers at the Methodist Church in Huntingdon in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, and the Week of Prayer for World Peace;
- delivery of our weekly street prayer mission cards to all houses in relevant streets to let them know that they are to be included in our intercessions on the following Sunday and to invite them to inform us if they would like anyone special to be mentioned in the prayers. Our street prayer mission calendar is also used by the Baptist Church.
