What is Stepping Stones?

Stepping Stones is a Mums and Tots group with a difference!

It is for all who seek to bring their children up to know God and to live a Christian life.

Through singing, stories, prayer and reflection, craft work and play, Stepping Stones is a place where children can learn about God and about life, but more than that, they can come to know God for themselves, as someone who made them and loves them, and to experience the difference that this makes in all our lives.

Who is it for?

Stepping Stones is for pre-school children. All children have a divine spark within them waiting to be fanned into a flame. Their endless curiosity, their thirst for discovering new things, their love of stories, and their capacity for love, all start from a very early age. These are all things that Stepping Stones aims to encourage.

Stepping Stones is also for parents, grandparents, godparents and other carers who want their children to be brought up in the Christian faith, and to live a Christian life.

It can be hard to know how best to teach children about the important things in life, and about God. Stepping stones is here to help you.

What does it involve?

Each session starts at 1.30pm with a drink and biscuit.

We then have our ‘circle time’ with action songs, a story with pictures or puppets, a time for reflection and prayer, and more singing.

We end with craft activities in small groups, and free play using the wide variety of toys and games available, while parents and carers catch up and enjoy each other’s company.

We aim to finish by 2.45pm, in time for older children to be collected from school.

Our leaders are all parents or grand-parents themselves, experienced in helping children discover God and his wonderful world. They are all CRB-cleared.

Stepping Stones is run jointly by Churches Together in Godmanchester:

We believe that the Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Godmanchester, exists to build up the individual and corporate spiritual life of our Church and to spread the love of Christ through word and deed, by enabling those who live and work within our town to come into contact with God’s love and come to faith in Christ.
