Bell Ringing Practice

There will be a bell ringing practice on Tuesday 9th May at 7.30pm. Bell ringing practices are now being run jointly between Godmanchester and Huntingdon every Tuesday as follows: 1st, 3rd and 4th Tuesdays in the month: All Saints, Huntingdon,

2nd Tuesday in the month: Godmanchester,

5th Tuesday in the month: St Mary’s, Huntingdon.

If you are thinking of taking up bell ringing, practices are a wonderful opportunity to see what’s involved.

Church Accounts

In preparation for the APCM a copy of the church accounts for 2022 is displayed on the noticeboard near the font.

Thrive Youth Care

I have received the following message from Ruth Hunt of Thrive:

“Thank you again for another generous donation raised for Thrive at the Coffee & Croissants morning and Frugal Lunch. Please pass on my thanks to the St Mary’s church family; we are so grateful for each donation received.” Robert Francis

Come-and-Sing for the Coronation

Following last year’s highly successful concert for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, we are planning another ‘Come-and-Sing’ concert to celebrate the Coronation of the King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The concert will be in the parish church on Sunday 7th May at 6pm and will be conducted by Christopher Brown (founder of Huntingdonshire Philharmonic), who was a chorister at the last coronation in 1953.

The programme will include coronation music for this year (e.g. Parry’s I was glad) and previous coronations such as The King shall rejoice (1727). There will be one rehearsal, from 2pm to 5pm on the day.

To join the choir singers are invited to book their places now, by giving us their details and a contribution (towards expenses) of only £5 (preferably a note!) to Colin Thirlwall or Jonathan Young.

Diocesan Festal Eucharist: Saturday 24th June at Ely Cathedral

This year marks the 1350th year since St Etheldreda first established a monastery in Ely and the Cathedral has plans to hold several celebratory events throughout 2023.

Further details of the programme of services, concerts and other events to celebrate the occasion are on the Cathedral’s website and members from all churches across the diocese are particularly invited to attend the Diocesan Festal Eucharist at noon on 24th June. The Archbishop of York will preach at the service.

If you would like to attend the Festal Eucharist, there will be a sheet to sign up on the table by the South Door – please indicate if you need a lift, or are able to offer a lift to someone else. The Cathedral have asked for an idea of numbers and transport plans in advance, so we will submit these nearer the time.
