Welcome to St Mary’s

New to the Parish Church?

New to Godmanchester, or a visitor to the town and you would like to learn more about the St Mary’s community? Please collect a ‘Welcome’ flyer from the table by the entrance door. Do make yourself known tothe Vicar, a Churchwarden or sidesperson and pleasejoin us in the church hall for refreshments after the 9.30am service today.

Parking (or rather, not parking) in Chadley Lane

This is a reminder that people coming to St Mary’s for regular services or for special events, are kindly asked not to park in Chadley Lane if at all possible. The residents have had to put up with a number of incidents of careless parking over the years (obviously, not all of them committed by St Mary’s folk), and have asked me to make this reminder from time to time. Of course, they understand that those with limited mobility need to park as close to the church as possible, but in any case, please take care not to park in front of a gate or entrance, on the yellow lines (unless you have a blue badge, and then only for 3 hours), or in such a way that other cars or emergency vehicles cannot pass. When the church hall is not in use, the paved area inside the gate is available for church parking. We want to be good neighbours! Thank you for your consideration. David

Vivaldi’s Gloria and Haydn’s Nelson Mass are coming to Godmanchester

St Ives Choral Society presents a double bill of Vivaldi’s Gloria and Haydn’s Nelson Mass at St Mary the Virgin Church, Godmanchester. The two pieces, largely considered to be masterworks, showcase the composers at the very height of their powers. The concert will feature a line-up of world-class soloists, a professional orchestra and members of St Ives Choral Society, led by Charne Rochford. This will prove to be an unmissable event.

Save the date, Saturday March 21st at 7.30pm for what promises to be a memorable evening.

Tickets (£12, £10 concessions) are available online from on the door on the night depending on availability.

Lent Groups

Once again there will be Lent Groups meeting for study, discussion, prayer and fellowship on five Wednesdays in Lent. We will be using material from Churches Together in Britain and Ireland written by Clare Amos, an Anglican theologian. The title is ‘Opening the Scriptures – setting our hearts on fire’, and it is intended to help us discover how our hearts can indeed be kindled by scripture. There is reflection on art, music and poetry, as well as opportunities to share passages that particularly speak to us. All are welcome, and while it is ideal if you can commit to all five sessions, please feel free to come to any number if you cannot make them all. There will be groups meeting in the Vicarage at 1.30 pm, and at Jean and Dai Morgan’s house, 2a Earning Street, at 7.30 pm, using the same material. Please come to whichever suits you best – no need to book, just turn up. The dates are Wednesday March 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th, and April 1st.

Vicarage home group

I am unable to host the home group on the regular third Wednesday of this month, so it will now be on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26th, at 10.30 am. Please come for prayer, reflection, coffee and talk – all welcome, no need to book.

Ash Wednesday

Lent begins this year on February 26th, Ash Wednesday. We will hold our usual Eucharist at 7.30 pm, with the Imposition of Ashes. Please come and begin Lent with us.

Prayers for Silvia

Dear family in Christ. Thank you very much for your prayers towards my grand-daughter Silvia Sotto-Maior. She has been back to my home since the beginning of this year and has been admitted to Hinchingbrook School. As God is gracious, she was allowed to join the same form group as last year and is settling well. God bless you all. Love from Lucilia.”
