All Souls Service of Commemoration

The annual All Souls service is next Sunday 30thOctober at 6.30 pm. As usual, names of the departed will be read out, there will be an opportunity to light candles, and there will be simple refreshments afterwards. If a funeral has been conducted through St Mary’s in the last three years (no matter whether it was at the crematorium, the graveside, or in church), then the name of the deceased will be read out as a matter of course and there is no need to ask for their name to go on the list. Any other names can be added to the list by the south door, or by contacting me. David 436400 / dwbusk@hotmail.com

Gift Day

The totals for gift day are now – Donations £3,735 which with Gift aid gives us £4,669.

Lesson Readers’ Meeting

If you regularly read a lesson in church, or if you are interested in becoming a reader, please come to a meeting at 11.15 am on Sunday 6th November. We do this from time to time to receive encouragement, refresh skills and share wisdom. I’d be very grateful if you would kindly make it a priority to attend – it will take less than an hour, and should help to strengthen this important part of church life. David

Re-launch of GEO (Group for Evangelism and Outreach)

Until Covid struck, we had a small group meeting regularly to promote evangelism (introducing people to the good news of Jesus Christ) and all forms of outreach to the wider community. It is high time to re-start this essential work, and I would like to invite anyone who is interested to get in touch with me. Our primary task is to meet, pray and think about evangelism and outreach, so you do not have to be physically active to belong to the group, but we also hope to get back to our regular door-to-door visits around the town, so walkers are particularly welcome! It is an opportunity to think of fresh ways of doing things: how can we best be a Christian presence in this town? David

Foodbank Harvest Thanks

The Godmanchester Foodbank wishes to thank everyone from St Mary the Virgin who gave so generously to the Harvest Appeal recently. The donations make a big difference to the community and provide help for those who need it most in these difficult times. Please, if you can, continue to support the foodbank throughout the year, or whenever you feel able.
