Island Hall Open Gardens

It is today and our 30th Anniversary. Please do come and celebrate this joyful occasion with us. Hopefully, the rota is complete and the cakes in the pantry. However, you can always pop in and ask if further help will be required or, perhaps, bake a last-minute cake. The weather may not be the best, but we will do our best to welcome you with a warm smile. Many thanks and God bless.

Magazines and Raffle tickets

June Magazines are out of the press and at the back of the church. Raffle tickets are attached to the magazine if you are a subscriber orat the little table near the font. Please collect it. Money from raffles and stubs should be handed to Peter Morgan or put through the letter box at the vicarage. Thank you.

Bellringing

A quarter pearl of Cambridge Surprise Major will be run for Evensong today.

Music Sunday

June 9th is Music Sunday. We will be celebrating it with a special service at 9.30 am. The choir invites anyone who wishes to sing on this occasion to join them for rehearsals on Friday evenings from now until the day. And our new music group, under Jackie Kirby’s direction, will lead some of our worship too – any closet musicians out there are warmly welcome to contact Jackie and join the band. It should be a special time to thank God for the gift of music – note the day, and please come.

Friday @ 5.15 7th June

Our next event will be on the 7th June at St Anne’s School. In this session we will celebrating the Children International Day – belated as it is on the 1st of June. We will focus on Children living in countries affected by warfare and will colour flags of the countries around the world which observe and celebrate this special day. The music and devotion will reflect the theme. For food, we will have a buffet of snack size savoury pastries, vegetables and houmous. For dessert we will have rolled orange torte and golden syrup. Booking is not compulsory, however, for catering purposes if you are planning to come, please let me know. Thank you. Contacts: 07786234571. My email is on the Diary page of the newsletter. Love from Lucilia

Summer Fete 22nd June

Our annual Summer Fete will be on Saturday 22nd of June starting at 2.00pm and finishing soon after 4.00pm. On the day, we will need a few young strong men to help set up the stalls at 10.00 in the morning and clear up at the end. If you think you can help, please let David Busk know. To make this event a joyful success we also need bottled or canned drinks big or small (which we will start collecting from the beginning of June), gifts, books or 2nd hand good stuff. Ruth Ekblom will be running the refreshments at the Church Hall. Whilst Ruth will be organizing hand help for the day, we will need your help, please, baking delicious cakes both: for the cake stall and to be served with the refreshments. For the Grand Draw prizes, as in previous years, we are hoping to have hampers. Those can be donated by groups of our Church, organizations, business or individuals. Please help us to keep our Church a more visible church within our community and do not forget that your presence on the day will be the cherry on the top of cake. Many thanks and God bless. Lucilia

Ordination of Kevin Parks

Kevin will be ordained Deacon in Ely Cathedral on Sunday June 30th at 10.30 am. All are welcome to attend – there are no reserved seats for members of ‘sending’ churches, but the organisers have said there will be room for all. Revd Clifford Owen will kindly take the 9.30 am service here that morning, enabling both Jonathan and David to be at the ordination. Kevin’s last Sunday with us will be on June 23rd, when he will preach and we hope to give him a good send off to serve as Curate in Girton and Madingley.

ADVANCE NOTICE – Ride and Stride

The annual Cambridge Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride Day will be on 14 September this year. I would ask that all groups and individuals within the church family consider what they could do to raise sponsorship for this worthwhile charity. What activities could people devise this year? The more we raise the more we receive. Any questions or proposals, please come back to me at a.leighsmith@btinternet.com. Thank you. Nicholas Leigh-Smith

Thanks, from Uganda

It was such an honour for me to come to join with you all and talk in church on 5th May. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly and listening so intently as I explained and talked to you about some of the work we do in Southwestern Uganda. I was so encouraged by the huge support from all of you towards our work in Bucence Children’s Centre. I would like to thank the Children’s Church for their magnificent effort in their sponsored move all the “way” from Godmanchester to Bucence Children’s Centre, North Kigezi Diocese in Southwestern Uganda and a big thank you to everyone for sponsoring and donating funds of £772 to help the centre.

Bucence Children’s Centre currently homes 26 orphan, needy and abandoned children and babies – the centre not only cares for the children on a daily basis but also researches the origins of children with the hope to rebuild bonds and return the children to the families where they belong. The funds you provided will help this work immensely. Thank you for being ‘Friends of Bucence Children’s Centre’.

Canon Rachel Harris, Chair of ‘Friends of North Kigezi Diocese’
