St Mary’s Church, Big Jumble Sale

Dear all, we are having a Jumble Sale in our Church from Saturday 6th to Saturday 13th April, from 9 to 5, excluding any service times. Please see posters at the table and please take one to put up in your window at home, I would be most grateful.

This is a big job so, if you can spare any time during the duration of the event, please let me know. I will have refreshments available, a warm smile and chit chat. Money raised is going towards the transformation project. Love, Lucilia

Annual Report & Accounts

If anyone wishes to look at these in advance of the APCM on 19th May they have been uploaded to the website.

Coffee & Croissants for Thrive

The two Coffee & Croissants held in February and last Sunday raised a total of £180, which has been sent to Thrive. Thanks to everyone who supports these events. Charities Committee.

Quiz Night – Saturday 6th April

The charities committee are hosting a quiz night on Saturday 6th April, 7pm in aid of Thrive. Please come and support. There will be cottage pie provided and you are invited to brink your own drinks. £12.50 for each person with teams of 6-8. You are welcome to come as a team or we can assemble the teams, so no worries if you are on your own. There will be a raffle (of course!) and any contributions to this are welcome. Please see Deb, Jane, Kate or Dilys after church for tickets. Or phone Deb on 07804095921.

Devotional organ recitals for Lent and Easter

John Dillistone will be giving half-hour organ recitals on five Thursdays, 1.15-1.45 pm. The dates are March 21st, March 28th, April 4th, April 11th, and April 18th. The aim is devotional and meditative. All welcome.

A Springtime Concert, April 20th, 7.30 pm

The Ensemble of Friends: The choir is a mixed group of experienced and talented singers drawn from a wide area, who rehearse and perform a cappella under the direction of Douglas Coombes, MBE. The richly varied repertoire includes music from all traditions and ages, often in superb arrangements by the musical director. A most enjoyable evening is promised. Tickets £10 on the door.

ADVANCE NOTICE – Ride and Stride

The annual Cambridge Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride day will be on 14 September this year. I would ask that all groups and individuals within the church family consider what they could do to raise sponsorship for this worthwhile charity. Add to that, we get half of the money raised back and the Trust makes both loans and grants to churches which need funding for maintenance and improvement.

Last year we had sponsored cycling around the churches from Huntingdon to St Ives and out into the country side, a sponsored organ recital and two sponsored hymn singing events in church (which could be loosely described as Ancient and Modern!). We have, coincidentally, a visiting team of bell ringers in our tower from 11.30 to 12.15 that day. What activities could people devise this year? The more we raise the more we receive and the Treasurer will tell everyone that we need to build funds. Any questions or proposals, please come back to me at a.leighsmith.

Taizé worship

In place of Evening Prayer, on Sunday April 14th at 6.30 pm there will be a service of worship in the style of the Taize Community. This involves simple musical chants that all can sing, reflection on scripture, prayer and silence. There will be refreshments afterwards. Do come.

Election of Churchwardens, Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and Church Electoral Roll

The Election of Churchwardens and APCM will be held on 19 May 2024, starting at 11.15am (after the 9.30am service). The meeting includes the election of two Churchwardens and two members of the PCC.

Nomination forms for churchwardens and PCC members are available from David Busk, as I am away for almost the whole of April. If you would like to be nominated, please complete a form and return it to David or me by Friday, 3 May 2024.

Regulations on eligibility to be a churchwarden or a member of the PCC are on the appropriate nomination forms.

Anybody registered on the Local Government Electoral Roll is entitled to vote in the Election of Churchwardens, but only persons whose names are entered upon the Church Electoral Roll are entitled to vote at the APCM.

If you are member of the congregation, but are not on the Church Electoral Roll and wish to vote at the APCM, please complete an electoral roll form and return it to me by Friday, 3 May 2024, as I also act as the Electoral Roll Officer. Copies of the form are available by the south door; the form is also on the church website. Look under Church Electoral Roll Applications – there is a copy of the entire leaflet as well as a separate copy of the application form. You can download the form, complete it and scan and email the signed form back to me at the email address below if you prefer.

Members of the congregation wishing to raise any item under Any Other Business at the APCM are asked to give notice of the item to me, via email (klrobinson80) by Friday, 3 May 2024, please. Thank you.
