Operation Christmas Child

If you have filled your shoebox and brought it back to Church for a blessing at the Parish Communion today, Sunday 20th November, then please bring it to the altar before the service begins. If you have not brought it then you can leave your box at 14 Corpus Christi Lane, Godmanchester.

I will be dropping off all the boxes at our local collection point on Monday 21st November. Many thanks, Jane (07941119630)

Christmas Bazaar

Our annual Christmas Bazaar will take place in church next Saturday 26th November at 2pm. We need donations of cakes for the cake stall, bottles for the bottle stall, gifts, books and raffle prizes.

This year, as in previous years, we are asking groups to provide hampers. Last year the grand draw stall looked very attractive thanks to your generosity.

We also need helpers for the door as we use the north entrance also, and someone to run the bookstall, the gift stall and help with games. If you can help in any way please could you let me know. Jean Morgan 417502 or morgan_01339

Cakes Please

The Wives Group have been asked to provide teas at the Christmas Bazaar. We are a small group and ask your help in providing cakes for the teas. We thank you in anticipation of lovely goodies! Olwyn Hurd (Chairman) 01480 458700.

The Aragon singers are performing a Christmas concert at Godmanchester Baptist Church on Saturday 26th November at 7.30pm. No tickets required, but donations for the Godmanchester Community Support Project, supporting a refugee family from Syria, are welcome. Car parking at Godmanchester Community Academy will be available.

The Charities Committee will be serving Bacon Butties next Sunday 27th November after Church. All proceeds towards the Service Charities. Hope to see you there!

Advent Carol Service & Mince Pies

The Advent Carol Service will be held in church next Sunday 27th November, at 6:30pm. A wonderful start to the season of Advent beginning in candlelight with an augmented choir leading the congregation. After the service wine & mince pies, provided by the choir, will be served in the Church to all from the congregation.

Children’s Christmas Film Party

The Friends of St Mary’s are throwing a Children’s Christmas Film Party showing the award-winning hit film ‘Get Santa’ starring Jim Broadbent and Rafe Spall on Saturday 10th December at 5pm at St Mary’s Church, Godmanchester. Tickets are £8 for adults, children under 16 are free.

Children should wear fancy dress and all will receive a prize. There will be mulled wine & mince pies for £5 and free sweets as well as a Christmas raffle. Do come, it should be great!

Parking on Chadley Lane

Parking on double yellow lines is illegal. Those with a disabled badge can park on a double yellow line, but only if they are not causing an obstruction to others; including getting in and out of driveways and the ability to manoeuvre at the end of the cul-de-sac. Please be aware of this problem and park elsewhere if practicable.

Christmas Tree Festival

St Mary’s Charities Committee are organising a Christmas Tree Festival to be held on Sunday 18th December from 4-6pm. We are asking local businesses, schools and community organisations to sponsor and decorate a Christmas tree. Proceeds raised will be donated to Godmanchester Food Bank and Thrive Youth Work (suggested donation £30 a tree).

Trees can be collected from Church on Sunday 11th December and decorated at home, or they may be decorated in Church on Sunday 18th December when we will be serving mulled wine & mince pies. There will be a prize for the best dressed tree.

If you belong to a local committee and would like to take part please contact Jane Nicholls 07941119630 janeynicholls, Kate Barkshire 07982245298, Deb Watts 07804095921 or Dilys Roe 07515854025.

We would love St Marys Church to decorate a tree and there will be a plate at the back of the Church this week and next for sponsorship donations. If you love decorating trees please let us know and come and take part in this Christmas festival. Any lights used on the trees will have to be battery operated.

We hope you will come and enjoy the Church lit up with beautiful Christmas Trees.
